Students at Jefferson Elementary Center recently got a tasty lesson in healthy eating and creativity thanks to a special donation from Chef Yura of West Virginia Harvest. Chef Yura, who recently served as a USDA panelist on Farm to School Initiatives, generously donated fresh fruit for the school’s i-Ready Fruit Kabob activity.

Each student was challenged to create a colorful pattern using ten pieces of fruit—and, as teachers quickly discovered, no one seemed to mind doing the activity more than once! The hands-on project encouraged healthy eating habits while tying in pattern recognition and fine motor skills in a fun, engaging way.

A special thank-you goes to Hollie Best for helping make the connection with Chef Yura and West Virginia Harvest. Thanks to their generosity, students experienced firsthand that nutritious foods can be both educational and delicious!
