Vandy Girls Basketball tryouts began today Monday November 1, 2021. Student athletes must have a WVSSAC Sports physical to participate. Student-Athletic-Physical-Form-2021 (1).pdf 6th Grade students are automatically academically eligible for the entire first semester. At the end of the first semester they must have at least a 2.0 GPA (Average over the first two 9 weeks) to continue to play. 7th and 8th grade students must have a current 2.0 GPA or above to participate.

There will be a boy’s basketball parent/guardian informational meeting at 6:30pm on Thursday November 4th in the Vandy Cafeteria. We are asking that all interested student athletes and their guardian attend this informational meeting. Please contact the school with questions.

Each student will be bringing home a survey consent form home. This form is to allow them to take the WV School Learning Environment Student Survey. The feedback will be used to help make improvements so that students have a positive and supportive environment. If you do not want your child to complete the survey please check the no box and return signed. If you would like for your child to complete the survey, you do not have to return the form.
Also the Vandy Trunk or Treat for Van Devender families will be next Thursday (10/28/21) here at the school starting at 5. If you would like to donate candy for this please bring it to the school or have your child bring it to the office.

Please remember that students and staff are currently required to wear face coverings during the school day. We have distributed over 800 reusable face coverings this school year and have given out over 1000 disposable face coverings. We are currently out of reusable face coverings and have a limited supply of disposable face coverings. Please have your student bring a face covering and a water bottle with them to school.
Wood County Schools benchmark in math and reading was sent home on Friday. On this form you will see a scale score and the equivalent grade level you child is at based on the first assessment. As we move forward I encourage you to talk with your child about how they are doing. Check Schoology to keep up with grades and assignments. Have your child pull up their iReady lessons so you can see how they are doing. There are many ways to stay up to date on your students progress academically. Please feel free to contact the school as well and we would be happy to help. I hope you have a great week.
Students are to keep cell phones and other electronic devices in their lockers prior to going to their homeroom. Cell phones cause disruptions to the learning environment. First offense: The student will be asked to put the device in their locker. Second offense: The device will be sent to the office until the end of the day. Third offence: A parent/guardian will need to come and pick up the device. Please contact the school with questions.
Vandy is implementing a House system this year where each homeroom is part of a collective House. There are five Houses named for important leaders from history. The students earn points for being kind, working hard, and representing themselves well in four arenas: education, service, extra-curricular, and citizenship. To solidify the houses into cohesive teams, we are starting a House dollar War as a fundraiser. The students bring in dollars to contribute to their houses and can also bring in larger bills to add as deductions to other houses. The funds raised from this event will purchase House t-shirts for each student which will be worn on House Days and during House competitions (much like Olympics but will be all year long). Each day the house that brings in the most money will be awarded House points. The House dollar War will run from now until October 29. Thank you for contributing to the success of this fundraiser.
Vandy School Picture Day is October 14th (Regular and Extracurricular). Picture Packets will be sent home in the next couple of days.

Monday was mid-term day for Wood County Schools. We are not sending home hard copies of mid-terms. Students grades can be checked by logging into Schoology. If you are not sure how to login please contact the school and leave your name. We will get the information and call you back. You can also have your student login while at home and check their grades with them. If you would need a hard copy please contact the school and request this.

Attention Vandy Parents: There is currently a nationwide TikTok Challenge encouraging students to destroy school property and steal items from the school. We are in the process of investigating incidents that have happened at Vandy. Those participating in these unlawful activities will be disciplined. (Fines, Restitution and Suspensions). Please have a conversation with your children about not participating in these activities. Your help with this matter is greatly appreciated.
