Attention Vandy students and families! You are invited to our Empowering Learning through Technology event on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 4:30pm-5:30pm Parents can learn how to navigate Schoology and Microsoft Teams. Parents will also have the opportunity for an iReady Diagnostic Conference. This invitation is for one caregiver and their Vandy student only. Each student needs to bring their charged school iPad to successfully navigate the programs together with their caregiver. We value your participation in your child’s education. Hello, I wanted to encourage all students to check out the middle school learning opportunities Wood County is offering over the summer. Middle school students can participate in the Space Mission: Middle Camp. This will include STEM, Physical Activity, Art Clubs, and Experiential Activities. There will be daily team intramural challenges, creative projects, guest speakers and presentations with interactive experiences. The camp will run from June 15 - July 16, it will start at 8:00 - 2:00 Tuesday - Friday, and will take place at Van Devender Middle School. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students need to bring a mask with them to school everyday. We have provided reusable masks to all of our students. We currently do not have anymore disposable masks to give to students. Students should also bring a water bottle or cup with them to school. Our Boosters purchased Vandy water bottles for the students but they only get one due to limited supply. We have run out of bottled water for students so it is important that they bring a water bottle or cup with them in order to stay hydrated. Students may be asked to keep the bottles or cups in their lockers in order to prevent water spills throughout the school.

The 8th Grade PHS Scheduling Presentation for parents will be in the gymnasium at 5:00pm tonight April 13, 2021. Please enter the doors by the parking lot to enter the gymnasium. The students already have this information so they do not have to come to this meeting, but you can bring them if you want to.

Just a reminder, picture retake day, and also picture day for virtual/distance students is on Thursday. They will be ready to start pictures at 8:30 am.

We are still in search of student athletes to participate in Vandy track. Practice is usually directly after school each school day until 5pm. You will need to have a WVSSAC Sports Physical and a passing grade point average to participate. Please contact Mr. Echard if you have questions.

Track season begins tomorrow April 5th. You will need a WVSSAC sports physical (Available online and in our office). All you need to do is show up after school on April 5th in our gym. Students must be academically eligible to participate. Please contact Vandy with academic eligibility questions.

Basketball Ticket/Attendance Reminder: Each athlete will receive 3 tickets for parents, guardians, grandparents, or household members to attend sporting events. You must have a ticket to purchase an actual ticket at the game. Adults: $5 Seniors/Students: $4 Exact Change would be greatly appreciated.

On March 17th we will be asking our students complete a family engagement survey. The results of the survey will help us to come up with strategies to create a supportive and safe environment where students can do well in school. Please contact Mr. Echard or Mrs. Bixman if you have questions about the survey. Copies of the survey are available upon request. The survey is completely confidential.

Information for tonight’s basketball games. Tickets will be sold for the 6th grade basketball game starting at 4:00pm. Once the game finishes, all 6th grade spectators will need to exit the gym completely prior to tickets being sold for the 7th/8th grade game. Our custodians will be wiping down the bleachers and cleaning the floor prior to 7th/8th grade spectators being seated. Spectators must have a ticket to present prior to being able to purchase a ticket at the door. Please contact the school with questions.

REMINDER: Students are not allowed to bring food items with them for breakfast in the morning. If a student brings food items then they will need to eat it before entering the building or throw it in the trash. Students are allowed to bring a cold lunch. The cold lunch is to stay in their locker until lunchtime. Students are not permitted anything other than water during the school day with the exception of lunch (Energy drinks and coffee drinks are NOT permitted during lunch). All food items and drinks at lunch must be finished during lunch. They cannot leave the lunchroom.
