Students participated this week in the WV Skills USA Fall Conference at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV. Wood County was well represented. We are so proud of our students for stepping out of their comfort zone and becoming part of a national organization!

*Wood County has some talented students who won first and third in the talent show.

*Thirty-four students earned their Statesman Award by participating and learning about Skills USA.

PLTW Pre-Engineering class is working on their first project of the school year. Students had to draft, design, engineer, and assemble a bean bag hurling device. Students are using this to measure accuracy, distance, and durability. They will be competing against one another as the final for the project.

Recently, Wood County Technical Center and the Caperton Center for Applied Technology welcomed the Carpenter's Union, Laborer's Union and the Electrical Union to our campus. Six of our skilled students signed to apprentice with each of these unions to advance their skills in their chosen field. Congratulations to them all!

Wood County Schools Special Education Office will be destroying special education records of all former special education students with a graduation date prior to and including 2019. Files prior to 2018 have already been shredded. Former students or legal guardians who would like to obtain the student file may contact Wood County Schools Special Education Office, 1210 13th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101, at (304) 420-9655, no later than Monday, September 8, 2025.

Mr. Kimble and Mr. Thompson took the Carpentry classes to a demonstration by the Laborer's International Union of North America. The students participated in an obstacle course against other technical schools. Two students - Evan Kent and Ian Osborn - won gift cards their quick work through the course.
