Sprinklers activated at Parkersburg High School PARKERSBURG - An accidental activation of the sprinkler system at Parkersburg High School set off alarms and soaked floors Sunday evening. Crews will be working overnight Sunday, Aug. 6, into Monday, Aug. 7, to clean up the water and determine the cause of the sprinkler activation. The water affected the PHS auditorium and the floors directly below the auditorium. Officials do not believe there was any fire or other emergency which caused the sprinklers to activate, nor were they activated by any person. More information will be released as it is available. PHS needs your help. Last night at 11:15 about 4-5 people came onto campus from the 19th St. area on foot near the stadium entrance, & set a trash can on fire @ 12:08. Police were on scene at 12:10 but all suspects ran off towards 19th & Spring St before they got there. If anyone has any information of who might have done this, please email me at KDEMOSS@K12.wv.us If you would like to remain anonymous, please use the anonymous reporting link on our Facebook page. I’m sure there is a video of the people committing such act because that is the norm nowadays unfortunately. You may also call and leave a message in the office at 304-420-9595 or call the athletic department at 304-485-8010.

Attention all Summer School Students at PHS: Summer School will begin this Monday, June 12th. There will be a mandatory meeting for all students in the Auditorium on Monday at 8:30. If you have not registered for Summer School, you can do that between 8-830 in Student Services on Monday. Please be advised that Driver’s Ed and PE are already full. At this meeting, we will give the students a handout with the times and dates for Summer School. If you have been assigned to take the second semester of Summer School only, that does not begin until July 3rd. Summer School is only for students who need to retake a course they have already failed in 9-12th grade or to obtain original credit in Health/PE/Driver’s Ed. All students will be issued an iPad, but they will not go home. Students will be able to work on coursework at their own pace, extra on their own time and must attend to pass. When they are finished with their course and have passed it for credit recovery, they will be able to leave for the summer. Summer School hours will be 8:00-11:30 M-F with a grab-and-go breakfast available until 8:30. Lunch will also be a grab-and-go at 11:30. If you have any questions about anything I just said, please call us at 304-420-9595. Thank you, and have a good evening.

Good afternoon, this is Christie Willis, superintendent of Wood County Schools. Unforeseen traffic issues today have delayed eight Wood County Schools buses bringing students back from field trips in Charleston. This will cause a 30-45 minute dismissal delay for students on those buses and for student who ride those buses home. Students who are delayed at the school will continue to be supervised until the buses arrive. This delay includes students riding bus numbers 80, 81, 169, 176, 183, 184 and 218. This affects students from Williamstown Middle High School, Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, Jackson Middle, Edison Middle, Blennerhassett Middle, Hamilton Middle, Neale Elementary, Lubeck Elementary, Blennerhassett Elementary, Kanawha Elementary and Williamstown Elementary schools. We apologize for the inconvenience and want to assure everyone that students are safe and in good hands. The safety of students is our number one priority. The horseshoe will blocked off for all staff and student drop off tomorrow due to Senior Color Day. If you typically drop off your student by the front door, you may drop them off at the end of the horseshoe/fieldhouse and they can walk up, or you may drop them off out back by the bus canopy. iPad collection has already taken place for 12th and 11th grade. If you have not turned yours in, please do so immediately. 10th grade collection will take place this Thursday the 18th and 9th grade will be Monday the 22nd.
