PROMISE Scholarship Information The WV Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) would like to clarify two misconceptions regarding the 2021 PROMISE Scholarship application for the class of 2021. Students must submit both the PROMISE Scholarship Application and 2021-2022 FAFSA by March 1, 2021. The HEPC will not be implementing the new WVSAM system for the 2021 PROMISE application year. Schools should not wait to utilize the new WVSAM system before they ask students to submit the 2021 PROMISE application. Current PROMISE applicant numbers are drastically down so please encourage all 2021 graduating seniors to submit the PROMISE Scholarship application at cfwv.com/promise and FAFSA at fafsa.gov as soon as possible. Submissions should be received no later than March 1, 2021. Class of 2021 seniors should submit the 2021 PROMISE Scholarship application whether they currently have a qualifying ACT/SAT test score or not. 2021 applicants have until August 2021 to meet the ACT/SAT test score requirement. All applicants must meet the March 1, 2021, deadline to be guaranteed an award for fall 2021. Students should NOT wait to submit the application until an eligible ACT/SAT test score is achieved. If you have questions or need assistance with the PROMISE application or FAFSA, please contact the HEPC office at promise@wvhepc.edu or 304-558-4618.

Current high school seniors who fill out a PROMISE Scholarship application and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be enrolled in a contest, “Cool Cash for College." Seniors who complete both of these steps by March 1, 2021, will be entered into drawings for prizes that include Apple AirPods, wireless printers, mini refrigerators, and gift cards.

This is PHS with an important reminder for all students. The expectations for remote learning are clear and are expected to be followed. You must log into your classes daily following the bell schedule as you would if you were attending for in person learning. Also, remember that your AUP is to be followed at all times when it comes to remote learning and using your device appropriately. Consequences can still occur for those that violate their AUP. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times when using the device and logging in for learning. If you have any further questions, please give us a call. Have a wonderful evening.

COVID-19 affects us from the classroom to the playing area. It's been a difficult sport's season for Fall sports. Between cancellations due to other team’s inability to play, or rearranging schedules daily just to give the student athletes an opportunity to play, has been very difficult to say the least. However, with all those hurdles, our AD, Chris Way, has done an excellent job! Thank you for your tireless efforts Coach Way! Through it all, Football and Volleyball were the only two sports that did not get to finish their Fall seasons. Both were playoff bound and state C-19 metrics prohibited us from participating. Golf, Cheer, Cross Country, and Soccer all had great seasons. Like last year with Girls Basketball, this year’s Football and Volleyball teams will not get to finish their seasons. It’s unfortunate and upsetting. With that being said, I wanted to take some time today to thank all Fall Sport athletes, coaches, and parents for their flexibility and perseverance just attempting to play one more game or have one more competitive moment. Thank you for your tireless efforts to be your best and make PHS the greatest place in the state to wear an athletic uniform! #onceabigredalwaysabigred

Parents & Staff: Regardless of what was sent out or said prior to this message, here is your guidance starting 11/16: *Full Remote Instruction Clarification: If Wood County Schools is using the full remote instruction plan (which we are right now in Orange or if we were in Red), teachers will instruct all students (A-Z) Monday - Thursday with Friday being a preparation day for teachers with office hours. Office hours on Friday will be rubber stamped for all teachers from 8:00-10:00AM at PHS and as well on NT days. *Full Remote Instruction Day: All students are instructed A-Z regardless of the in-person schedule. Teachers should be teaching via Microsoft Teams or using the Conferencing option on Schoology and you must follow the bell schedule. *Full-time remote students are to be included in the direct instruction. Some fulltime remote students have already started before 11/30 due to specific reasons. Starting 11/30, all high school students will be engaged with teacher led daily learning M-TR whether they are remote or in person, if the student makes that choice. Thanks for being flexible and understanding. Be prepared for anything! Things seem to be changing daily and routines are hard to get into. Covid infection percentage is almost at 80%. Stay safe and wear a mask!

The 7-day trend is not going in Wood County's favor. There was a 16% increase in infection rate within the last two days. We need our Big Red Community to lead by example by Wearing a Mask, Washing your Hands, and Watching your Distance. Do your part...Stay apart!

Our community needs to take Covid-19 mores seriously. Seeing many people not wearing masks and not keeping socially distant. In the last week, Wood County alone has risen 20% in infection rate. Please see the map attached. Do your part and stay apart! Wear you mask!
