Open Enrollment begins at noon today (Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024). If you would like your child to attend a school outside of your current attendance zone, you must complete the online enrollment form. The link opens at noon today.

All open enrollment requests are to be made beginning on January 16 at noon on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. The enrollment is also available on the WCS app. If your child currently attends a school out of district, or you would like for your child to attend a school out of district, you will need to complete an online application. Although the form is simple to complete, if you feel you may need some assistance with the application process, or you do not have access to a device or the internet, all secretaries at our schools have an iPad and can assist you beginning at noon on Tuesday, January 16.
If you child attends the school that corresponds to your home address, and you wish for this to continue, there is no action needed on your part.

Why is Career Technical Education (CTE) so important? Research has revealed that students enrolled in CTE look forward to coming to school, have higher attendance rates, do better in their academic courses, and have increased levels of competence and confidence leading to improved mental health. Each week, we will be highlighting students from our various programs so they can share just how important their CTE program is to them.
In addition to spotlighting many of our CTE students, we also want to introduce you to our exemplary CTE teachers. The best teachers in education teach at our two centers. Our teachers believe in their students, push their students to be the very best, and care for their students. Students at our centers share that they enjoy attending classes with our teachers because they are experts in their respective fields and they treat their students with respect.
Students in our Carpentry program have been working on foundations and framing.
Our Sports Medicine program recently worked on modalities to help people recover from injuries faster.
Some students from Emergency and Fire Management program, who are also Volunteer Firefighters, participated in some training with the West Virginia National Guard with Washington Bottom, Lubeck, and Blennerhassett Volunteer Fire Departments.
Our senior Electrical Program students took advantage of the warmer weather last week and completed some outside projects.

Our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pre-engineering class have been working hard on their battle bots. They are almost finished with construction and conducting practice runs.
The senior class in the Emergency and Fire Management Fire Management program practiced how to properly check blood-glucose levels last week.
The Wood County Technical Center Criminal Justice Program helped Vienna P.D. with traffic control during the Vienna Christmas Parade. We helped direct traffic away from the parade line so everyone could enjoy the parade safely. We got directions from the Vienna Police Department on how to safely direct traffic. The Criminal Justice Program also explained what our program is all about.
The Medical Skills class had the opportunity to listen to a traveling nurse discuss her career working with kidney dialysis.
Our Agriculture program is part of the Classroom to Cafeteria project, which gives students the opportunity to grow fresh produce for school cafeterias, and encourages students to eat healthy and buy local produce.

Our Emergency and Firefighting recently learned how to perform CPR and use an AED.
The afternoon Welding class worked on using the oxygen acetylene cutting torch and their 6010 uphill welding this week.
The Medical Skills students spent time practicing with the mechanical lift during their clinicals. Also a big congratulations to this class as they just finished up their clinical rotation. Next stop, CNA testing! 🎓🏥🩺🩹🩻
