NEW Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center Opening Monday January 17, 2022 On Monday, January 17th Wood County Schools, in partnership with Coplin Health Systems, will be opening a new primary care school-based medical facility for students, staff and community. The Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center in the Mary Lou Hague Sports and Arts Complex on the Parkersburg High School campus, located at 2101 Dudley Avenue. Our new school-based health center (SBHC) will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30am- 4:00pm and will provide primary care, acute care and lab services. Coplin Health Systems (CHS) accepts most health insurance plans, but also offers a wide array of payment assistance options for uninsured individuals, including a sliding fee discount program. CHS is a Federally Qualified Health Center. How care may be accessed by WCS students: A completed registration/ consent form will required to be eligible for services and will be sent home in the next few days with students for parents/ guardians to complete. Forms can also be picked up at the Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center. Students and staff can be seen for services such as well visits, sick child visits, immunizations, and sports physicals. Students and staff at PHS will be given priority for services to minimize time spent out of the classroom. All health care services are completely optional and by request only. 1. Students can see their school nurse to request services. Once the school nurse assesses the student and determines further care is necessary and a registration/ consent form is on file, she will contact the parent/ guardian for permission to send student to the school-based health center. Then, the school nurse contacts the SBHC to coordinate a visit for the student. The student receives a pass and their attendance is excused during the time they are in the SBHC. 2. Parents/ guardians may contact the school nurse and request their child receive services when there is a concern. A registration/ consent form is required for the student. 3. Parents/ guardians may contact the Parkersburg High School Health and Wellness Center directly to request their child receive services. A registration/ consent form is required for the student. If parents/ guardians and staff of WCS students have questions, they may contact Julie Bertram, WCS Health Services Coordinator at 304-420-9562 Ext. 0. Community members are encouraged to contact Coplin Health Systems or the PHS Health and Wellness Center directly for questions regarding their care.

Hello this is Kenny DeMoss Principal of Parkersburg High School with an important announcement. Starting this Monday, November 15th – Friday, November 19th, we will be conducting a cold weather clothing drive contest for our community in conjunction with the Salvation Army. So starting tomorrow, first period classes, which is also your homeroom, will be collecting some type of warm cap, not a baseball cap, but like a toboggan or skullcap; something that can keep someone warm on their head. We will also be collecting gloves and scarves. Now all of these items must be new in their package or with the tag still on them. Each item will count as one so at the toboggan or scarf would be counted as one and a pair of gloves would be considered one. The homeroom that collects the most items by Friday will win the contest and will be photographed with the Salvation Army on Friday will then donate all the belongings. I appreciate you helping out! Service to our community is a major component of our school culture. We as a school community like to give back to our community and this is what the need is right now. I’m looking forward to seeing the total number of items we actually bring in. This our last full week of school before Thanksgiving. After this coming Friday we will return on the 29th. On a side not I wanted to say thank you to all parents and students who participated in school athletics this Fall. Volleyball just finished up their season on Saturday when they lost in the Elite 8 of States. Congratulations goes out to them for a job well done. Winter sports are in full swing. Swimming stared two weeks ago. Girls basketball last week, and boys basketball and wrestling start this Monday. Girls basketball practice is Monday 630-9 in the FH. Freshman Boys basketball Is after school until 530 in the Jack. 10-12 Grade boys basketball is 4-630 in the FH. Wrestling is 4-6 in the FH Wrestling room. Swim is 7-9pm.
